Eccentric Eno Instructions

Set up

First we recommend that you apply anti-sieze to the bolts that affix the hub to the frame. Once you have laced the Eric’s Eccentric ENO hub into a wheel and installed your cog or freewheel, place the wheel up into the drop outs. The simplest way to adjust the chain tension is to situate the bike in a normal upright ready to ride position. When the wheels touch the ground the rear wheel will rotate up and back thereby tensioning the chain. At this point you need to tighten down the bolts on either side of the hub. Apply a good amount of force. We recommend 25 ft. lbs. Using a light hand will only result in the hub slipping during a ride. Once the hub is in the correct place, have a trained bicycle mechanic adjust your brakes to the proper position according the brake manufactures instructions.

Disassembly Remove bolt/washer assembly that affixes the hub to the dropout and the bolts that attach the axle end to the axle. You should have four bolts and two washers. Place a rag around one axle end (for protection) and place the axle end flats in a vice. Tighten down the vice. Hold onto the rim of the wheel and walk the axle end out of the axle. The axle end is plugged into the axle. Get a dowel or socket that is approximately the same diameter as the axle. The dowel will act as a punch. Place the dowel against the end of the axle (side without the axle end attached) and hit the end of the dowel with a mallet. The axle should be tapped through the shell which will remove the axle, bearing, and axle end. Remove the remaining bearing in the hub shell with a bearing puller, or use a drift punch with a mallet and tap the bearing out. If you use a drift punch, remember to work from the backside of the bearing outwards. To remove the bearing from the axle/axle end assembly, wrap the axle end in a rag, place the flats in a vice and tighten down on the end. Hold onto the axle and pull or walk the axle out of the axle end. Once the end is removed the bearing can be pulled off of the axle end.

Assembly
Place new or refurbished bearings on each axle end. Plug one of the axle end/bearing assemblies onto the axle. Insert axle assembly into hub shell. Once the axle assembly is in the hub shell, plug the additional axle end/bearing into the axle. Grease the 4mm allen head bolts, install and tighten down each side securely. The bearings should be fully seated in the bearing bores. Grease or apply aniti-sieze to the frame bolts and thread the bolts with washers into the axle end. Install the hub/wheel and rotate the axle ends to obtain desired chain tension. Caution: The brakes may need to be realigned to accommodate correct brake caliper/wheel rim position. A trained bicycle mechanic at your local bike shop can assist you with realigning your brakes. Once in position, tighten the bolts securely.  Enjoy
